Karol G’s ‘BbY WOW’ spends a tenth week at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs

Karol G is still on top. Her song “BbY WOW”, made with the Spanish singers Judeline and Rusowsky, is No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for a tenth week. The new chart, dated October 31, came out this week, and nothing has been able to push the song down since late August.

The song is also No. 1 on the Hot Latin Rhythm Songs chart for a tenth week.

She replaced herself at the top

The run began in a funny way. “BbY WOW” first reached No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart dated August 29, when it jumped from No. 5. The song it knocked off was another Karol G track, “Ahí”, her duet with Drake, which had opened at No. 1 one week earlier.

That made “BbY WOW” the Colombian star’s 11th No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs. The same week it went up to No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100, a new best for the song on the main chart.

Both songs come from “No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto”, Karol G’s sixth studio album. The album went to No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart and reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200.

Ten weeks and counting

Since then, the song has held first place every single week. Bad Bunny’s “DTMF” has been the closest rival. It sat at No. 2 when “BbY WOW” first took over in August, and it was still at No. 2 on the October 24 chart.

This week “BbY WOW” lost its place at the top of Billboard’s global charts, where Tate McRae’s new single “Housewife” took over. On the Latin chart, though, Karol G’s lead did not move.

Our take

Ten weeks at No. 1 is a long time in a world where new songs come out every Friday. Part of the reason may be the mix of voices: a Colombian superstar with two newer names from Spain. That pairing gave the song fans on both sides of the Atlantic, and they have kept streaming it long after the album came out.

If the song stays at No. 1 into November, it will start to compare with the longest runs of her career. With the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas on November 12, the timing could hardly be better.

Is “BbY WOW” your favourite song from the new album, or do you prefer “Ahí” with Drake? Tell us in the comments.
